Dab is a form of cannabis extraction that comes in various types such as Wax, Shatter, Budder, Crumble, Live Resin, Rosin, Oil & Diamond Sauce.
Wax
Wax is a type of cannabis concentrate that has a sticky wax-like consistency. It is usually opaque and can vary in texture from crumbly to more malleable
Shatter
Shatter is a translucent and brittle concentrate that resembles a glass-like sheet. It is named for its tendancy to break or ‘shatter’ when handled
Budder
Budder has a creamy and butter-like texture. It is created through a whipping process during extraction, resulting in a soft and smooth concentrate, favoured for its ease of use and versatility in dabbing.
Crumble/ Honeycomb
Crumble is a concentrate with a crumbly, dry, and brittle texture. It is similar to wax but has a more brittle consistency. Crumble concentrates are known for their high terpene content.
Live Resin
Live Resin is a type of concentrate that is made from harvested, flash-frozen cannabis. Results in a concentrate with a robust and aromatic flavour profile. Live resin is regarded for flavourable experiences.
Oil
Cannabis oil concentrates also known as CO2 oil or disillate. They often used in vape cartridges, edibles, or infused products.
Rosin
Rosin is a solventless concentrate made by applying heat and pressure to cannabis flower or hash. It is a sticky and resinous substance, its favoured for its purity and natural extraction process.
Diamond Sauce
Diamond sauce consists of crystals and sauce. The sauce component of is the fraction that contains a high concentration of flavourful terpenes, providing the concentrate with its distinctive aroma and taste.
Tools Required
To Dab right you will need four basic essential tools – Dab Rig, Dabbers Tool, Nail and Flame Torch.
Dab Rig
A 'Dab Rig', is a water pipe designed to smoke concentrates.
Dabber Tool
The Dabber tool is specialised for the task of scooping your concentrate onto the nail of your Dab Rig.
Flame Torch
This is a small blow torch used to heat the nail for smoking your concentrates.
Nail
The nail fits on your dab rig and is where you ''dab'' your extract. They either come with a dome or are dome-less.
Methods of Extraction
Globally there are 4 main methods for Dab extraction – Manual Rubbing, Sieving, Solvent-based extraction and Solventless
Hand-Rubbing
The process of rubbing cannabis between palms to remove tripoids
Sieving
Dry and wet sieving is a mechanical separation method that utilizes screens of varying mesh sizes to separate trichomes from dried cannabis plant material.
Solvent-based extraction methods
These methods use some kind of chemical solvent to dissolve and separate the trichomes from the plant material. The most common solvents used are Butane, CO2, Ethanol and Propane.
Solvent-less extraction methods
These methods use heat and pressure or ice water to separate the trichomes. With heat and pressure the device used is a Rosin Press or similar. Ice water is similar to wet sieving, plant material is washed in ice water and the water run through meshed bags of varying sizes to catch those delicious trichomes.
